IN A SUICIDE NOTE, JAGATPAL SINGH, 25, SAID THOUGH THEY CANNOT LIVE TOGETHER, THEY CAN DIE TOGETHER

A youth and his “lover” allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves in a hotel room on the Railway Road in Kurukshetra on Tuesday.

They have been identified as Jagatpal Singh, 25, a resident of Mousiwala village of Fatehabad, and Meena, 26, of Narwana town of Jind district. Jagatpal was working as a lab technician in Hisar.

As per the hotel staff, they had checked in the hotel on June 17 (Sunday) after giving their identity proof. On Tuesday, they did not open the room and the hostel employees later saw the youth hanging with the ceiling fan. They informed the police.

Police said the body of the youth was found hanging with the fan whereas the girl’s body was lying on the bed.

The police said they also recovered a suicide note from the spot reportedly written by the youth. “We love each other. Though we cannot live together, we can die together,” the youth said in the suicide note, while blaming the society for not accepting their relationship.

The police said the couple belonged to the same caste. Before committing suicide, Jagatpal also sent a text message to his brother asking him to take his body from Kurukshetra.

When contacted, Kurukshetra police station in-charge Prateek Kumar said prima facie, it is a suicide case, but the police investigation is on. “The suicide note recovered from the room also mentioned that they were ending their lives as they could not live together,” he said.

The actual cause of death could be ascertained after the postmortem, he added. The police have informed their famil ies and a case has been registered under Section 174 of CrPC.
