Panipat trader among five held in Mumbai for firing in club

A city-based businessma­n was arrested, along with four others, by the Mumbai police for allegedly firing in a high-end club in Andheri area of Mumbai.

The accused has been identified as Rakesh Kalra, 40. He runs a ghee manufactur­ing unit and two milk plants in Panipat.

Kalra had reportedly gone to Mumbai along with his two security guards, Sonu and Mahendra Malik, and friends Mohit Kumar and Rajiv Dhamija to celebrate birthday of his girlfriend Nisha, who was also accompanyi­ng them.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday when Rakesh Kalra a ghee trader from Panipat, along with his friends and bodyguards, was partying at the club.

During the birthday party, Kalra and his guards allegedly fired six rounds in the air when Nisha was cutting the cake.

They were booked under Sections 336 and 202 of the IPC and the case was lodged in Amboli police station. Police also recovered six weapons from their possession. They were sent to judicial custody by a Mumbai court.

Talking to HT, Mumabi’s Amboli police station in-charge Bharat Sheka Gaikwad said, “We have verified his weapons and they are legal. We are taking help of the Haryana Police to find out whether any other case is registered against him.”

Panipat SP Sangeeta Kalia did not respond to HT’s phone calls and text messages.
