CONGRESS LEADER STATED THIS IN RESPONSE TO A PLEA BY THE HARYANA POLICE SEEKING WITHDRAWAL OF ADDITIONAL GUARDS FROM HIS SECURITY

AICC communications in-charge and Kaithal MLA Randeep Surjewala on Friday told the Punjab and Haryana high court that there are serious threats to his security.

He was responding to a plea by the Haryana Police seeking withdrawal of additional guards from his security.

He told the court that he was receiving threats from local gangs of Haryana through social media, but the state’s BJP government is not acting.

Earlier in May, Haryana had sought withdrawal of additional security to Surjewala while informing the court that 22 security persons are deployed with him against the entitlement of 11 persons as prescribed by rules. It had also argued that as per the ministry of home affairs (MHA) guidelines a protectee cannot be granted double security cover form the Centre as well as state.

The argument of the state that he has got dual security was flawed, the court was told. “The entire argument of dual security emanates on account of personal and political malice and prejudice on the part of state,” he told the court.

Surjewala has been given ‘Y’ category protection by the Centre and is entitled for 11 security men. He has been provided 11 securitymen by the Centre and another 11 by the Haryana government. Earlier in 2016, the Congress leader had approached the court seeking Central Industrial Security Force Security (CISF) cover, being opposed by the Haryana government.

The matter will now come up in the court on August 3.
