Drugs seized in Sirsa, 4 arrested

The Sirsa police claim to have arrested four persons and recovered 121-kg poppy husk, 1-kg opium, 3,600 banned pills and 220 bottles of banned syrup from their possession in separate cases, on Thursday.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Sirsa superinten­dent of police (SP) Hamid Akhtar said, “The crime investigat­ion agency (CIA) of Sirsa police got a tip-off about a Tata 407 canter carrying a huge quantity of poppy husk and opium. Following this, a team under the leadership of CIA in-charge Dharamvir Singh reached near Nathusari Chopta area, where they found two men in possession of 121-kg poppy husk and 1-kg opium from two persons.”

The accused have been identified as Sohan Singh, a resident of Jhandakala­n area of Punjab, and Balwinder Singh, a resident of Begu road, Sirsa.

“We have also decided to form a special team to nab the supplier.”In another case, the CIA of Dabwali, sub-division of Sirsa district, arrested two persons with 3,600 pills and 220 bottles of banned syrup from Mangeana village. SP Akhtar said, “The accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Mangeana village and Bhundar Singh, a resident of Pakkashahi­dan village of this district."

Police have also seized a Honda City car from the possession of the accused and registered a case under sections of the NDPS Act.
