Adopted by MP Ghubaya, Fazilka village feels let down

- Sarbmeet Singh letterschd@hindustantimes.com

years after Dhandi Kadeem in Fazilka district was adopted by Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), a rural development programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, most of the development works started in the village are far from completion.

The village, with a population of 5,000, is yet to get a stadium, a primary health centre while the local school does not even have a boundary wall.

Sarpanch Preeto Bai said, “When MP Sher Singh Ghubaya announced to adopt our village we were excited. But now all the hopes have dashed to the ground as the majority of development works are still pending. As many as 49 schemes were on the agenda but only a few have been implemented properly.”

“Development works like construction of a stadium, boundary wall of the school, dispensary, veterinary hospital and a public park are still pending. The MP has not visited the village for a long time,” she added.

“The construction of a link road which connects our village with the adjoining areas is half done ,” said Balwinder Singh, a villager.

Swarn Singh, another resident of the village, said, “Dhandi Kadeem is no different from other Punjab villages. The ponds are in a dilapidated condition.”

MP Ghubaya said, “I have tried my best to change the village’s face. Several works have been completed after the village was adopted under the scheme. I have spent crores on the construction of a bank, post office, RO system and streets in the village.”
