Ex-BJP leader alleges rape, FIR registered

-

The police on Thursday booked a businessman and his father on charges of rape and assault after his wife, a former leader of Gurugram unit of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, lodged a complaint alleging that she had been sexually assaulted and subjected to cruelty by them, police said on Friday.

According to Inspector Rajbala, station house officer of the women’s police station in Sector 51, said the woman, a Gurugram resident, alleged that her fatherin-law had raped her. “In the complaint, the woman also said that she was harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry and was subjected to unnatural sex by her husband,” the SHO said.

The investigating officer, requesting anonymity, said the victim’s statement was recorded on Friday before a duty magistrate and her medical examination was conducted. “A probe has been initiated. The accused will be arrested after investigation,” the investigating officer said.

A senior functionary of the Haryana BJP said the woman submitted her resignation from the party post last week and the party has considered it. However, she continues to be a member of the party. “Police case is her personal matter and the party is not concerned with it,” said a functionary requesting anonymity.

Police said a case was registered on Thursday against the accused under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code at the women police station in Sector 51.

Earlier, the woman’s husband had filed a complaint against a party leader for allegedly calling his wife repeatedly and instigating her against him. In his complaint marked to the Commissioner of police office, he had alleged that the leader had threatened him and was responsible for marital discord.

When a call was made on the victim’s mobile number, a man claiming to be her brother answered, saying, “My sister was being harassed for a long time and she filed the complaint.”HTC
