Militants abduct SPO in Pulwama, release him later

in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday evening released the special police officer (SPO) they had abducted on Friday evening, police said.

SPO Mudasir Ahmad Lone, who was abducted by militants from Chantakar village in Tral area of Pulwama district, was released alive and has reached his home, police sources said.

The mother of the abducted SPO had made a passionate appeal to the militants through a video that went viral to spare her son’s life.The SPO was working as a cook in Awantipora Police Lines and had no role in anti-militancy operations.

PAST INCIDENTS

Last week militants had killed a police constable Mohammad Salim Shah after he was abducted from his house in south Kashmir and his body was recovered from Redwani village in Kulgam. A day after Shah was killed, police claimed to have killed three militants in the same area who were responsibl­e for abducting and killing the constable.

In the first week of July, police constable Javeed Ahmad Dar was abducted from his house at Vehil in Shopian district and later killed by the militants few kilometres away from his house. In June, an army soldier Aurangzeb was abducted when he was going home for Eid in Shopian. Later, his body was recovered from a village. Earlier, Hizbul’s operationa­l commander Riyaz Ahmad had threatened cops to resign from their jobs or face consequenc­es.
