BJP seeks PDP MP Baig’s resignation

The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Sunday demanded the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) member of parliament (MP) Muzaffar Baig on principle grounds for his anti-national remark on lynching incidents.

“Failure on Baig’s part to tender resignation may force the BJP to approach the Lok Sabha speaker to take cognisance of his public statement and take action against him,” said BJP spokesperson Sunil Sethi.

Sethi confronted Baig for his anti-national statement in which he said the nation will again divide if lynching is not stopped and said that this statement is unacceptable.

“The BJP is totally against lynching, be it cow slaughter, honour killing or ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley. The nation-divide threat by the PDP is anti-national. Nobody can divide the country now,” Sethi said and added that the BJP forged alliance with the PDP to honour people’s mandate with the sole mission of development. “The PDP chief failed in ensuring law and order and national security, which forced the BJP to pull out from the government in the state.”

‘MEHBOOBA IS PROVOKING KASHMIRIS’

Replying to the statement of the former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti during the PDP foundation day rally on Saturday, Sethi said the BJP was also swallowing poison while having an alliance with the PDP and thus cracked the pot when it began to harm national security.

Speaking at the 19th foundation day of Peoples Democratic Party in Srinagar on Saturday, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said, she “drank the cup of poison” to continue in a coalition government with the BJP out of compulsion, following her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s demise in 2016.

Sethi said Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah (National Conference patron) are desperately asking for talks with Pakistan on Kashmir but the BJP makes it clear that the only issue which can be discussed with Pakistan is taking back the Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) as it is the spirit of the Indian Parliament resolution.
