RELATIVE RAPES 8YEAROLD, ARRESTED

An eight-year-old Class 3 student was raped by a distant relative in a village of Nagaur district on Saturday night.

The victim was taken to the Ajmer Zenana Hospital on Sunday morning and is under medical supervision, police said.

“Doctors from the surgery and obstetrics and gynaecology departments checked her. For now, her condition is stable,” said Gomaram Jat, the station house officer of Makrana police station.

According to Jat, the victim’s father told the police that her daughter was playing in the courtyard of his house when the accused took her to an empty plot on the pretext of offering her some eatables and raped her.

Later, the girl returned to the house and narrated the incident to her parents, said Jat, adding that the accused has been identified as Konaram Harijan, who had come to the victim’s village from Reodh village in Nagaur district to attend a function and was living in a nearby house.

The villagers handed over the accused to the police. “He (Harijan) has admitted to the crime and will be presented before the court tomorrow (Monday),” Jat said.

The medical examination confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted.

Police have booked Harijan under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
