Haryana AAP invites Kejriwal for kanwar yatra finale today

A day after their spat with police in Panipat, Haryana Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said they have invited their party supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to conclude the ‘Bhaichara Kanwar Yatra’ in Rohtak on Thursday.

Kejriwal will join the AAP leaders at Makrauli toll plaza on Thursday morning at 9 am, from where the yatra will proceed to Rohtak city to end at the martyrs’ memorial in Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU).

Haryana AAP president Naveen Jaihind maintained the event will not be political.

“There will be no road show or rally. He (Kejriwal) will just accompany us barefoot across the city to give the message of peace and brotherhood,” Jaihind said.

“Calling him to Haryana was not our plan for this yatra. But the way the police behaved with us on the behest of the BJP government, he wanted to show his support to us and the party workers. The government should be aware that it cannot get away after resorting to such petty tricks,” Jaihind said.

According to Jaihind, their Kanwar Yatra was stopped by the police in Panipat on Tuesday and the cops misbehaved with party workers. “The policemen dressed in civil uniforms tried to implicate us by hiding black packets in our vehicles. One of our workers saw them doing this and thus we prevented anything serious from happening,” he said.

As the AAP is preparing to straighten its foot in Haryana after their unsuccessful feat in Punjab, the party doesn’t miss any chance in taking advantage of their national convener, who is a native of this state. Kejriwal has so far addressed two rallies in Haryana besides a roadshow across the state in March earlier this year.

As the state inches closer to next year’s assembly elections, Kejriwal is expected to visit here more often.

“Unlike Tanwar and Hooda, our yatra is not aimed at grabbing the CM post. It is only for strengthening brotherhood that has been lost in Haryana due to so many incidents of violence,” Jaihind said. He said after the culmination of the yatra, he will distribute the gangajal they have brought from Haridwar to BJP ministers and remind them of their poll promise.
