Accused parents’ kin was awarded death sentence in gangrape case
: The family of the girl whose parents have been arrested for getting her killed for marrying a Dalit youth is not new to crime, as one of their kin has previously been convicted and awarded death penalty for gangraping and murdering a mentally challenged Nepalese woman in Rohtak.
Manbir, one of the eight convicts in the horrific gangrape and murder case of the 28-yearold Nepalese woman in February 2015, is the nephew of Ramkesh and Savita, both of whom have been arrested for conspiring to kill their 18-year-old daughter Mamta because she married a “lower caste” man.
“The family had stood by their son when he had brutally raped and killed that poor lady. Now, they have killed their own daughter for choosing a partner. This was very unfortunate and the entire village feels the parents did wrong,” said a shopkeeper near accused’s house in Gaddi Kheri village of the district.
The police have so far arrested four people in the case. They include victim Mamta’s biological parents Ramkesh and Savita, and her foster parents Ramesh and Krishna who got her legal custody when she was two-year old. The police said all four conspired to kill her “because she brought dishonor to family”.
All four were produced in court on Saturday, which sent Ramkesh, Savita and Krishna to jail and Ramesh on two-day police remand.
Another prime accused in the case, Mohit Kumar, another nephew of Ramkesh, is absconding. Mohit is accused of hiring professional shooters from UP who gunned down Mamta and a sub-inspector on her security outside Rohtak court on Wednesday.
The police sources said Mohit may have contacted Manbir in jail to hire the shooters for the killing. Police teams are raiding several locations to nab him.
The district court, meanwhile, turned down the bail plea of victim Mamta’s husband Sombir to attend her cremation. Sombir is lodged in Rohtak jail for forging documents to show Mamta an adult to marry her. He may be shifted from here due to security concerns.
