FEROZEPUR: Officiating jail superintendent of Ferozepur Central Jail, Arwinder Pal Singh Bhatti, has been suspended for allowing the unauthorised visit of husband of local Congress MLA and others to the jail premises on Friday.
Additional director general of police (jails) Iqbalpreet Singh Sahota issued the suspension orders on August 11 (Saturday) after videos of the visit went viral. During the visit, Jasmail Singh Laddi Gehri, husband of Satkar Kaur, the Congress MLA from Ferozepur (rural), and his aides, took a round of the jail and also interacted with inmates. They also clicked photographs on the jail premises.
The suspension order says, “Deputy jail superintendent Arwinder Pal Singh Bhatti, who also had the officiating charge of jail superintendent, Ferozepur Central Jail, violated the rules of the jail manual by allowing the unauthorised visit of some persons along with mobiles and clicking of pictures. So, he is placed under suspension with immediate effect and is shifted to headquarters at Chandigarh.”
When contacted, Jasmail Singh, the husband of the MLA, said, “There was no deliberate violation of the jail manual. I had gone to the jail to donate a water cooler for inmates, a demand that they had raised before state jails minister, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, during a recent visit. While we were completing the formalities, a few of the inmates came to greet me. It was here that my assistant inadvertently clicked some photos.”
