DO NOT THINK OF DEATH, INSTEAD THINK OF HOW WELL YOU’RE GOING TO LIVE

- Jayashree Krishnamoorthy Innervoice@hindustantimes.com

“What is death?” How many of us can sit and freely talk on this subject? People are usually afraid to talk about death, and it lies in the fact that everyone desires to live long and nobody wants to die .

Even though death is certain, it is still unpredictable. A lot of apprehension still exists around death. Why do we die? What happens after we die? Such questions frequently come to our minds. Death is normally associated with sorrow. But do we mourn everyone’s death? No. This is because the sorrow we experience in the death of someone is personal, coming from our attachment to that person.

We must train our minds to practice detachment in attachment, so that our minds maintain an equilibrium and we find it easier to let go of the dead. Nothing is permanent and we have to know the truth that once we are born, death is certain.

Ergo, we should consider death as an eventuality. Living is easy, it is actually dying that is difficult as that leash is not in our hands. So why spend time worrying about it? We should just love life and live it well. Death is the culmination of the play that we are all participants in the theatre called the world. In the way that we love life, let us love death too. Maybe that is the only way that we truly allow ourselves to live well. Don’t think of death, instead, think of how well you’re going to live your life!
