60yrold bludgeoned to death by robbers’ gang in Nawanshahr

NAWANSHAHR: A gang of at least six armed robbers barged into a house and killed a 60-year-old man before decamping with cash and gold ornaments in Begumpura village here on the intervenin­g night of Saturday and Sunday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Joga Singh.

The robbers also attacked his wife Kashmiro and son Mandeep, who are currently undergoing treatment at the civil hospital.

Nawanshahr station house officer (SHO) Shehbaz Singh said at 1.30am on Sunday, six men armed with wooden sticks entered the house of Joga Singh by scaling wall and bludgeoned him to death while he fast asleep in a room on the first floor.

“Upon hearing the commotion, Kashmiro and Mandeep, who were sleeping in separate rooms on the ground floor, came outside and the robbers also hit them, inflicting serious head injuries,” Shehbaz added.

The station house officer said the robbers threatened to kill them if they did not hand over the jewellery and cash they had in the house.

“The robbers have decamped with jewellery, including gold chains, bracelet, two rings, earrings, and ₹3,000-₹4,000 cash,” the SHO said.

‘PROBING MATTER FROM ALL ANGLES’

“Police are investigat­ing the case from various angles and scrutinisi­ng the footage of close circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed near by to get some leads,” he added.

A case under Sections 458 (house-breaking by night after preparatio­n for hurt), 459 (grievous hurt caused whilst committing lurking house trespass) and 460 (all persons jointly concerned in lurking housetresp­ass) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Nawanshahr police station.
