Cops bust two vehicle lifters’ gangs, arrest 10

Police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of thieves and vehicle lifters in Tarn Taran on Friday.Police have arrested four people, seized 12 cars and 15 twowheeler­s in two different cases in Tarn Taran. In a press conference, senior superinten­dent of police (SSP), Darshan Singh Mann, said that the arrested accused belong to Tarn Taran and Ferozepur district.

The accused have been identified as Sharanjit Singh alias Mohan, Sikandar Singh alias Khando (both of Gagobuha village, falling under Chabhal police station), Satnam Singh alias Satta, Akhowal village, Ferozepur district and Ramesh Chand alias Rinku, Sher Khan village, Ferozepur district, told the SSP.

The recovered vehicles are worth ₹20 crore, said the police officials.

Two other accused who are still absconding have been identified as Pargat Singh of Chhichrewa­l village (Tarn Taran) and Angrej Singh alias Raja of Sher Khan village (Ferozepur). Efforts are being made to trace them and further investigat­ion is going on, said the SSP.

A first informatio­n report (FIR) under Sections 379 (theft) and 411 (dishonestl­y receiving stolen property) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused in Chabhal police station.

A second FIR under the same sections has been registered against the accused in Kacha Pakka police station also.

Following a tip-off, a police team launched a manhunt and nabbed the four persons.

The police have arrested six people and busted a gang of robbers, in Jalandhar on Friday.

Police have recovered four motorcycle­s, two autoricksh­aws, 43 batteries of mobile towers, 480 feet internet wire, 500 feet cable wire, 32kg copper, 55 brass taps and two television sets from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Sunil Kumar of Ramoli village in Bihar, Raju of Ghumani village in Uttar Pradesh, Mukhiya of Sugetha village, Nand Kumar of Bhagwanpur village, Sandeep of Bamrao village and Kallu of Rasuapur village.

Sub-inspector, Pushap Bali, said, the accused were active in Jalandhar and Nakodar.

“The accused used two auto rickshaws, sans registrati­on plates, for robbing battery from mobile towers, cable wires,” said police.

“The accused confessed to selling the looted items to one Ram Kabadiya of Bangao in Jalandhar,” said police.

“All the accused persons are related and Ram Kabadiya, who is their uncle is also the kingpin,” said police.

“Kabadiya used to direct the accused before committing the robberies and later took care of the looted items,” said police.

“Other members of the gang are still on the run and will be arrested as soon as possible,” he said.

Meanwhile, a case was registered against the accused persons under Sections 392 (robbery), 395 (dacoity), 454 (trespass), 380 (theft), 411 (receiving stolen property), 148 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Lambra police station.
