KARNAL: A rice trader was allegedly robbed of ₹25 lakh by three unidentified miscreants at Panipat’s Vadhawa Ram colony late on Saturday.

The victim, Rakesh Kumar, was injured in the attack and had to be hospitalised.

It was the second attack on an industrialist within two weeks as on August 11, a 63-year-old trader was shot dead at his dyeing plant in Panipat’s Sector 29 by two robbers.

Police said the victim, who has an office in Delhi, had withdrawn the money from his bank account to make payment to different firms.

But Kumar could not make the payment and came back along with his accountant, police said, adding that at 10pm, the victim dropped his accountant in Samalkha and reached Panipat alone.

The victim told police in his complaint, “When I got down from my car with the bag containing cash, three persons with their faces covered came on a bike and hit me with a sharp weapon. As the result, I fell down and they snatched the bag from me before fleeing from the spot.”

Police said Kumar informed his family members over phone, who then took him to a hospital.

On the basis of victim’s complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 379B of the IPC and started investigation.

NO CLUE OF ACCUSED

Even after 24 hours, the police have failed to get any clue about the accused.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Panipat Quila police station in-charge Balwan Singh said, “Soon after we got the complaint, we registered an FIR and started investigation. But as of now, we do not have any information about the robbers.”

This is not the first incident of robbery in Panipat as loot and murder of industrialists and businessmen have become quite common in this industrial city.

SP Manbir Singh said, “Some unfortunate incidents have taken place in the city, but we are working closely to send such criminals behind bars to ensure safety of every individual.”
