SRINAGAR :Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday revamped her party by giving prominent posts to the senior party leaders and not her relatives.

The PDP leaders who were blamed by the rebel group for ‘destroying’ the party seem to have been sidelined in the latest rejig in the party bringing in a new vice-president and five general secretaries.

The aim of this restructuring within party, leaders said is to save the party from further rebellion. Many former ministers and legislators have been given important portfolios in the new revamp.

Former minister and one of the founding members and legislator from Bijbhera constituency Abdul Rehman Veeri has been appointed as the vice-president of the party. The post got vacant after Sartaj Madni, maternal uncle of the former chief minister, resigned from the post soon after government fell.

Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and Abdul Haq Khan have been appointed as general secretaries along with Mehboob Iqbal, S Surinder Choudhary and FC Bhagat.

Former finance minister Syed Altaf Bukhari was nominated as the treasurer of the party while Rafi Ahmad Mir would be the chief spokesperson for the party.

The party has also reconstituted political affairs committee (PAC), which will be headed by Mehbooba Mufti while former deputy chief minister and MP Baramulla Muzuffar Hussain Baig will be it’s member along with other members.

The former chief minister had already hinted about this revamp after five to six legislators openly revolted against the party and blamed the party chief and her relatives for destroying the party.

The rebel leaders were led by former minister and legislator from north Kashmir Imran Reza Ansari. Some of the legislators even refused to meet Mehbooba Mufti and even dropped hints of joining any other alliance to form the government.

THE PARTY HAS ALSO RECONSTITUTED POLITICAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, WHICH WILL BE HEADED BY MEHBOOBA MUFTI WHILE FORMER DEPUTY CM BAIG WILL BE IT’S MEMBER
