Defunct CCTV cams in Hisar to be functional in a week, says DC
HISAR: Deputy commissioner of Hisar Ashok Kumar Meena on Tuesday said the administration has taken cognisance of the defunct 41 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at various points in the city and claimed that they will be made operational within seven days.
Hindustan Times had on August 30 raised the issue of possible security lapse likely to be caused by the non-functioning cameras.
Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Shiv Charan, had also shot off a letter to Meena and municipal corporation to look into the matter.
NON-OPERATIONAL FOR PAST FIVE MONTHS
The CCTV cameras were installed in April 2017 and were lying defunct for the past five months, reportedly due to lack of maintenance.
MP from Hisar, Dushyant Chautala, had inaugurated the CCTV control room at Hisar’s superintendent of police (SP) office last year.
He had given ₹15 lakh for the purpose from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund, while the maintenance task was assigned to the local civic body.
While talking with HT, Ashok Kumar Meena said, “CCTV cameras can indeed curb the crime rate in the city and are crucial as a security point of view. I have directed the Hisar MC to look into the matter and make the cameras operational within seven days.” “I have also asked the civic body authorities to submit a report as soon as possible,” the DC added.
THE REASON
As per the sources, battery back-up and lack of proper maintenance are the core reasons behind the non-operational CCTV cameras.
