Punjab teachers suspended in last two years to be reinstated: Soni

JALANDHAR: On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, Punjab education minister OP Soni on Wednesday ordered reinstatem­ent of all teachers suspended over the past two years for various reasons.

Soni, accompanie­d by education secretary Krishan Kumar, was here to preside over a function to honour teachers with state-level and special awards.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Soni said he has ordered the secretary to reinstate all the teachers suspended over the past two years for any reason.

“This is a gift to them from the government on the Teachers’ Day. We are giving them a chance to reform and teach the students with full dedication,” Soni said.

Soni said the department is also planning to withdraw the first informatio­n reports (FIRs) against teachers whose crime is not very serious in nature.

On asking about the number of teachers to be reinstated, Soni said the figure is tey to be worked out.

GOVT TO SET UP MODEL SCHOOLS IN ALL DISTS

Soni also announced to establish model schools in every district, saying the first such school will be set up in Jalandhar.

Soni said the government has been doing all efforts to rejuvenate the education and health sectors.

“The state government would spend Rs 1,000 crore, including Rs 86 crore on uniforms, Rs 64 crore on smart classes, Rs 30 crore on solar panels, Rs 5 crore on library books, Rs 18 crore on sports, Rs 10 crore on sanitary pads, Rs 9 crore on RO systems, Rs 2 crore on green boards, Rs 120 crore on classrooms and Rs 310 crore for mid-day meal,” he said.

Soni said they have also started the rationalis­ation process and the teacher shortage in all the schools will be overcome soon.

“The schools having additional teachers will be deployed in remote area schools where there is a dire need of teachers and under the new policy, they have to remain posted there at least for three years,” he said.

Asked when the students of Class 12 will get their history book as half of the session has already passed, Soni said they have uploaded five chapters of the book online and the complete book will be ready within a month.

51 TEACHERS GET STATE AWARD, 53 SPL AWARDS

As many as 51 teachers were presented state awards for their extraordin­ary initiative­s to improve the education system or their unique style of teaching. Another 53 teachers were given special awards.
