Family attacks police party, frees PO from custody
Two cops had gone to arrest the accused
KAPURTHALA: District police on Wednesday booked six persons of a family for allegedly attacking cops who had gone to arrest one of its member — a proclaimed offender (PO) in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases — on Tuesday night and managed to free the accused.
Those booked have been identified as PO Paramjeet Singh, 25; his mother Sant Kaur; sister Rano and three relatives — Pala Singh, Deepa Singh and Raja of Subhanpur’s Dograpur village.
A Subhanpur police team led by constables Sarabjeet Singh and Lakhvinder Singh had gone to the village to arrest Paramjeet.
When the cops tried to take him into custody, family members of the accused deterred cops from performing their duty and reportedly attacked them.
Subhanpur station house officer (SHO) Satnam Singh said Paramjeet was declared a PO in 2016 by a district court.
“The family members of the accused manhandled the police team,” he added.
“Sant Kaur and Rano were arrested on Wednesday afternoon, while the other accused are still at large,” the SHO said.
A case under Sections 332
(voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to
deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against all six accused.
