SHOES FLASHED IN HRY HOUSE, CONG MLA DALAL SUSPENDED

: Two opposition MLAs, including the leader of opposition, waved shoes at one another following heated exchanges on the last day of the monsoon session of the Haryana assembly. Leader of opposition Abhay Singh Chautala and fivetime legislator of the Congress Karan Singh Dalal were involved in the unsavoury incident.

Speaker Kanwar Pal Gujjar suspended Dalal from the House for a period of one year after the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) objected to a remark made by him during the discussion on BPL (below poverty line) cards being made in Haryana.

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker Kanwar Pal on Tuesday imposed a one-year ban on Congress MLA Karan Singh Dalal from attending assembly proceedings after the BJP government moved a resolution accusing the former minister of referring to Haryana as ‘kalankit rajya’ during a discussion.

But before being suspended, the fifth-term legislator Dalal and INLD’s Abhay Chautala, the leader of Opposition in assembly, had come close to hitting each other with shoes.

It was first Dalal, who angrily and aggressively moved towards the INLD benches with a shoe in his right hand, targeting Chautala with what the INLD leaders said “very provocative and abusive language.” Chautala too retaliated at Dalal hurling abuses in plenty with a shoe in hand.

At the root of Dalal’s provocation was Chautala’s suggestion to BJP to move a resolution to suspend Dalal for hurting the feelings of people of Haryana by using “disgraceful words” against the state on the “sacred” floor of the House.

“The language that Dalal used has left a deep wound... He cannot be spared with an apology. Bring a resolution to suspend him... and we will support that,” Chautala said.

Suddenly Dalal was seen shouting at Chautala and rushing towards INLD benches. The duo had come dangerously close to each other. Anyhow, they were prevented from hitting each other as the speaker rushed his marshals to stand in between the two leaders.

The Congress MLAs physically stopped Dalal from jumping onto the benches where INLD members were sitting. All INLD MLAs were ready to take the revenge as Chautala asked them to hit back. The speaker then adjourned the House for 10 minutes at 1.18 pm.

The tempers of the INLD benches were boiling so much so that while stepping out of the House during adjournment, Chautala dared Dalal to stay inside the House. Visibly shaken at the turn of events, Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Raghubir Singh Kadian tried to cool the tempers.

Unless this ban is revoked, Dalal, who questioned the law under which he was suspended for one year, cannot attend the Vidhan Sabha proceedings during the term of this House as the assembly elections are due by October 2019.
