-

JAMMU : The victims and kin of the injured in Kishtwar road accident on Friday morning recalled the horror. One of the injured Lal Singh was still under shock and had suffered injuries on the neck and eyes.

Singh said, “The vehicle was overcrowded and it was carrying passengers more than its capacity. On one of the curves, he lost control over the vehicle. While the vehicle started sliding, I lost consciousness.”

Two of the passengers brought to Government Medical College hospital in Jammu are battling for their lives while eight others have suffered multiple injuries and are still in shock. An eight-year-old boy Waseem, who lost both his parents Nazir Ahmed and Misra Begum in the accident, is suffering from HI injury.

His uncle on his bedside said, “My brother's family has been destroyed in the accident. What will I say to him after he gains consciousness. Raising Waseem is a challenge for me.” “The entire road stretch from Batote to Doda and Kishtwar has become fatal for commuters and road accidents have become frequent. I don’t know when the government will wake up from deep slumber and take measures to prevent such incidents. A concrete policy is required to address the issue,” he said. A couple Abdul Rashid and Sadia Begum are also critically injured in the incident.

“Only cosmetic repairs are carried out on damaged portions of the road, which get worn-down soon. Also the minibus operators violate law without any fear. Overloading is a norm in the area,” said Hamid, a relative of the couple. Advisor BB Vyas also visited the hospital and asked authorities to provide necessary assistance free of cost to all.
