CHANDIGARH:Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh has urged Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar to make a provision in the state government rules to provide relief to married sister in case of an unmarried martyr, who was the only son of his parents.

At present, the state government rules provide for a government job to a member of the martyrs’ family, while there is no provision to give relief to a married sister.

In a letter to Khattar earlier this month, the Union minister for planning and chemicals and fertilisers urged the government to provide a government job to any kin of martyrs.

The Gurugram MP said he had been apprised by many aggrieved families of his Lok Sabha constituency that there was no provision for any government job for a married sister of an unmarried martyr who was only son of his parents.

Referring to the case of martyr Capt Kapil Kundu, who laid down his life in Jammu and Kashmir in February this year, he pointed out that Kundu’s mother Suneeta, widow of Lala Ram of Ransika village of Gurugram, does not have any source of income and her two daughters are married.

Bringing in a rule to provide a job to either of them will further empower the women in the state, he added.

He also reminded Khattar to fulfil the promises he made in response to various demands of the villagers in the area, including opening up a grils’ school and a health centre in the martyr’s name.

When contacted, Vijayendra Kumar, director, Haryana sainik and ardh sainik welfare department, said the proposal to give relief to married sister of martyrs is under “active consideration” of the government.
