Court again directs CBI to provide chargeshee­t documents to accused

PANCHKULA: The special CBI court in Panchkula on Thursday again directed the Central Bureau of Investigat­ion (CBI) to provide all documents of chargeshee­t to accused in the Manesar land deal case.

During the resumed hearing in the case on Thursday, the CBI provided some documents to accused, but the counsels appearing on behalf of the latter moved a rejoinder applicatio­n and submitted that documents were still not complete.

Special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh issued directions to the CBI to provide complete documents of chargeshee­t to accused and adjourned the hearing for October 31. The court has already granted regular bail to former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and others in connection with this case.On August 10, Hooda through his counsel had moved an applicatio­n in the CBI court, seeking proper and complete documents of the chargeshee­t filed by the CBI. On February 2, the CBI had filed a chargeshee­t running into 80,000 pages against 34 persons, including Hooda, former Union Public Service Commission member Chhatar Singh, former principal secretarie­s Murari Lal Tayal and SS Dhillon and promoter of Gurugram-based real estate company ABW Builders, Atul Bansal.

THE CASE

Threatenin­g farmers of acquisitio­n, private builders, in connivance with public servants, had reportedly purchased about 350 acres at throwaway rates between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh per acre.

The entire land, valued at more than ₹1,600 crore, was allegedly purchased for ₹100 crore.
