Three held with rifle, pistol
AMRITSAR: Three people were arrested after police recovered fire arms from their possession in two separate cases near Bhadarkali temple and fish market, here on Sunday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Karan Singh aka Bunty, 28, of Gate Hakima area, Semson Masih, 33, of Faizpur locality and Hari Chand aka Dev, 38, of Lohgarh area.
While addressing a press conference at civil lines here, deputy commissioner of police (DCP-investigation) Jagmohan Singh said, “Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Joginder Singh of special staff wing along with a police team was patrolling near Mata Bhadarkali temple during which the cops saw two men sitting on the temple’s ground.”
“On seeing the police party, the accused tried to flee, however, the team gave them a chase and arrested the duo. The accused are Karan and Semson. While searching, the police team recovered .12 bore rifle from Karan and 10 live rounds from Semson.”
He said the duo was planning to commit a crime but the police foiled their bid. “The accused confessed that they had stolen the rifle from Punjab National Bank near SSSS Chowk,” said the DCP.
“Sub-inspector (SI) Dilbagh Singh of special staff wing and other policemen were paroling near the railway crossing in Lohgarh area.
During the patrolling, the team caught Hari Chand on suspicion basis.
On searching him, police recovered a .32 bore pistol and one live round from his possession,” he said.
“The trio has been booked under Sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at Gate Hakima and Islamabad police stations respectively. After presenting the trio in a local court, we will ask for their police remand,” he said.
