Patna Pirates rally to beat UP Yoddha

Patna Pirates overcame a sluggish start, registerin­g a 43-37 victory over UP Yoddha on Sunday. Pardeep Narwal scored 14 points to be the star raider again but it was the Patna defence that laid the foundation of this win. Shrikant Jadhav got 17 points for UP Yoddha and Rishank Devadiga scored 11 but their efforts went in vain.

Rishank scored with two consecutiv­e raids as UP Yoddha led 3-1 after three minutes. UP Yoddha sent Pardeep to the bench in the fourth minute and reduced Pirates to four men. Pirates averted an all out in the fifth minute as they forced a super tackle to trail 3-6. Another super tackle in the 8th minute by Patna Pirates levelled the match at 7-7.

DANAPUR BOYS WIN

NEW DELHI: Army Boys Sports Company, BRC, Danapur thrashed BaruipurHi­gh School, South 24 Parghana (Bengal) 13-0 in the Nehru Sub-junior hockey tournament here on Sunday. The winners led 6-0 at half-time. Sachin Dung Dung scored five goals while Sachin Horo and Ankit scored two goals each. In a keenly-contested tie, Govt Boys Sr Secondary School, Ghuman Hera (New Delhi) drew with Directorat­e General (NCC) 1-1. SNPB School (Pune) frittered a two goal lead to draw with Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, RCF, Jalandhar 5-5 with Akash Kumar Paswan slamming four goals for Kendriya Vidyalaya.

ABHISHEK TRIUMPHS

NEW DELHI: Abhishek Ahuja created an upset when he defeated Puneet Sharma 3-2 in a tense pre quarter-final match and entered the quarter-final league in the Delhi State 15-Red Senior Snooker Championsh­ip at Megapool Academy, Dwarka. Abhishek made a break of 67 in the last frame. The final scores were 62-20, 13-69, 62-46, 46-1 and 82-22.

Other pre-quarters results: Jason Malhotra b Harpreet Singh 3-1; Sandeep Gulati b Gurdit Singh 3-0; Sanchit Gupta b Aditya Dubey 3-0; Monu Chaudhary b Harpeet Singh 3-1; Monu Chaudhary b Mohit Sehgal 3-0.

ULTRA MARATHON

CHIKMAGALU­R: United States’ Hayden Hawks set a course record at the Coffee Day Malnad Ultra to win the 50km category in four hours, 19 minutes and 38 seconds. In the 110km category, Florent Bouguin took the top place in 13 hours and 50 minutes. Tim Hewitt won the 80 km category clocking seven hours, 59 minutes and eight seconds.
