Skill denied is success denied
An empowered woman is powerful beyond measure and beautiful beyond description.
It is well said that behind success of every man is a woman. If she is capable of making someone successful, then why isn’t she considered capable enough to come forward and achieve the same. While our society encourages girls to excel in studies, this enthusiasm is not the same when it comes to leading organisations.
Talent, skills and leadership qualities are not gender specific and our society still hasn’t understood this fact.
Girls are nurtured in a society where it is unacceptable to oppose marriage and are instead taught to prioritise such responsibilities before their work and passion. Such wishes are imposed on them without caring their take on such matters.
Life of women thus becomes stressful and this impedes their growth and so they often take a step back.
She is taught that her responsibility is to look after relationships rather than given the muchneeded support. You must have heard people that qualities a mother can teach a child, no one else can. This stereotype is again one of the reasons why girls lag behind. Such people ought to be taught that a child is the duty of both mother and father. Initiatives need to be taken by public and private sectors by providing creche facilities. Young girls and their parents need to be counselled so that value of their talent is recognised.
For a man to be successful, all he needs is capabilities. For a woman, however, this list needs a lot more.
She needs to consider societal norms, place of work, working hours, people she’s going to work with before taking up an opportunity. This automatically decreases her chances to lead the topmost positions.
Although women empowerment is largely recognised these days, but her capabilities and strength continues to be underestimated.
In many areas, even if women are given equal work and responsibilities, they are still denied equal salaries and are forced to be satisfied with less income. Government and private sectors should ensure that women are given equal opportunities and equal salaries. Awareness programmes should be held to make people aware that leading is a skill.
