Two held for killing history-sheeter

Two persons were arrested for allegedly killing a history-sheeter, wanted in a dozen criminal cases, in Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, here Friday.

The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh aka Babb of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar and Narwinder Singh aka Kala of Mandir Wala Bazar at Sultanwind road.

The deceased Amandeep Singh aka Sunny’s body was found in Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar near Sultanwind road on Tuesday. Sunny was killed due to drug over dose, said police.

After the body was found, police had booked unidentifi­ed men under Sections 302 (punishment for murder), 201 (causing disappeara­nce of evidence of offence, or giving false informatio­n to screen offender) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at B Division police station.

Addressing a press conference at Police Line, deputy commission­er of police (DCP-Investigat­ion) Jagmohan Singh said, Sunny’s death was suspected to be a murder case. “A team led by station house officer (SHO) Sukhbir Singh of B Division police station was formed. During the probe, it came to the fore that Sunny was wanted by Amritsar police in a dozen criminal cases.”

“The accused were with Sunny a day before his murder. During questionin­g, they confessed to killing him by giving him drug overdose, following which they disposed of the body in an abandoned plot,” the DCP said.

He said, the duo was friends with Sunny and killed him as they wanted to take his .315 bore pistol.

Sunny’s pistol and mobile phone have also been recovered from the accused ‘s possession, said Jagmohan Singh.

The arrested accused are also history-sheeters, said the police official. HTC
