22YEAROLD BEATEN TO DEATH IN ABOHAR VILLAGE

22-year-old youth was beaten to death at a village, falling under the Abohar sub-division of Fazilka district, on Saturday morning.

The victim was identified as Ramesh Kumar, a medical store employee at Khatwa village. His father, Mahinder Kumar, told the police that around 3.30am, he was informed that some persons were thrashing his son.

“When I reached the spot, I saw that my son was tied up to a bed and some people were thrashing him with sticks and iron rods. I plead with them to set my son free, however, they did not listen,” the victim’s father said.

Following this, he went to get help from the police but when he returned, Ramesh was found lying unconsciou­s. The victim was taken to the civil hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police said multiple injuries, including those inflicted with hot iron, were found on the victim’s body. In his complaint, the victim’s father identified the accused as Pappu Ram, his parents Krishan Lal and Santosh, and another resident Surinder. A case has been registered against them under Section 302 (murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) and 506 (criminal intimidati­on) of the Indian Penal Code.
