The body of subinspect­or Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir was recovered from Chewa Kalan area of Pulwama district

A sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police was shot dead by militants in Pulwama district in south Kashmir on Sunday, while a political worker succumbed to his injuries after he was fired upon by an unidentifi­ed gunmen in Srinagar. Sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir was posted with the CID in Srinagar.

: A sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) was shot dead by militants in Pulwama district in South Kashmir on Sunday, while a political worker succumbed to his injuries after he was fired upon by an unidentifi­ed gunmen in Srinagar, officials said.

The body of sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, who was posted with the Crime Investigat­ion Department (CID) in Srinagar’s Sheergadi, was recovered from the Chewa Kalan area of the district, the officials said. He was targeted when he was returning home, they said

“We have lost sub-inspecter Imtiyaz of JKP in a terror incident at Pulwama. We condemn this gruesome killing and pay our sincere tribute to the officer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this juncture,” Kashmir police tweeted.

The private vehicle driven by the Imtiyaz was halted in Wahibugh area, following which he was taken to the nearby Rumshi Nallah where his bullet riddled body was later recovered.

On the same evening, unidentifi­ed gunmen opened fire on

Mohammad Amin Dar, a Peoples Democratic Party worker, at Gangbug, Tengpora. He was shifted to nearby Jhelum Valley College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Sheergadi station house officer(SHO) Aftab Ahmad confirmed the death but refused to divulge more details.

Militants have been targeting policemen in the state and killed two special police officers and a constable last month.

On Saturday night, a special police officer (SPO) was critically injured after he was allegedly hit by a bullet in his leg in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Budgam superinten­dent of police Tejinder Singh said that they were investigat­ing how the

SPO was injured.

With Imtiyaz’s death, the total toll of killings in violence related incidents in Kashmir since October 21 has reached 26, which includes five security forces men, eight civilians ( including seven killed in a blast in Kulgam on October 21) and 13 militants.

2 ARMY PERSONNEL INJURED IN RAJOURI LANDMINE EXPLOSION

Two army personnel, including a lieutenant colonel, were injured in a landmine explosion along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Sunday. The duo was rushed to the hospital where their condition was stated as stable.
