Exsanitati­on staffer held for firing at IGMC supervisor

: A sanitation worker has been arrested on the charge of firing at his supervisor in Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here on Sunday, the police said.

Gaurav Kumar, who works as a supervisor at the hospital, alleged that Vishwas, 40, who is a resident of Uttar Pradesh and had left the job two-and-a-half-year ago, fired at him after an argument near the hospital mortuary in the morning hours on Sunday.

“I was attending a phone call at stairs, when suddenly Vishwas came and held my hand and pushed me. He then took out a gun from his bag and fired at me. Fortunatel­y, I escaped the gun shot and immediatel­y ran inside my office. He then started kicking the office’s door,” Gaurav said.

An eyewitness to the incident, Indira Devi, who works as a sanitation worker at the hospital, said she saw Vishwas waiving gun at Gaurav and when she warned him, Vishwas pushed her and fled from the back door.

IGMC senior medical superinten­dent informed the police about the incident, following which a team led by deputy superinten­dent of police Parveer Thakur reached the spot and initiated investigat­ion.

The accused was arrested from a forest area near Ramnagar when he trying to flee from Shimla, police said.

Investigat­ion in the case is underway, police said, adding that a case was registered at the Sadar police station against the accused.
