ACCUSED STARTED HARASSING THE VICTIM FOR DOWRY SOON AFTER SHE GOT MARRIED IN NOV 2011

A 34-year-old woman’s husband and her in-laws were booked here on Saturday for demanding dowry and harassing her.

Victim Raman Bhola, 34, of Joshi Mohalla, had filed a complaint against her in-laws alleging that her husband Ankur Bhola, father-in-law Vijay Kumar, mother-in-law Usha and brother-in-law Gorav, had beaten her up several times for dowry.

The complainant told the police that she got married on November 5, 2011, and has two children.

A few months after marriage, her husband and in-laws started harassing her for bringing more dowry.

The woman, in her complaint, said that the accused thrashed her and forced her to leave the house.

Her family intervened on several occasions, but they did not stop the harassment and beat her up several times, she told the police.

City police sub-inspector Sukhwinder Singh said, “Efforts are being made to nab the accused, who are absconding.”

A case under Sections 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against all four accused by Kapurthala SSP (rural). Efforts to arrest them are on.
