The body of a 17-yearold girl, with her throat slit, was found at her friend’s house in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh on Saturday.

Stating that the girl had gone missing from her house on Friday, police said that her friend, who they suspect to be her boyfriend, is absconding.

Police said they learnt of the murder around 9 pm when a police team from Shalimar Bagh police station reached the girl’s friend’s house on Saturday evening, while searching for her.

Police maintained that the girl’s family had filed a missing persons’ complaint late Friday night.

Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Aslam Khan said the teenager had stepped out of her house in Shalimar Bagh around 7 pm on Friday. However, she never returned. “After thoroughly searching for her in the neighbourhood, the girl’s family approached the police around midnight and got a missing persons’ complaint registered at Shalimar Bagh police station.

On the basis of the complaint, an FIR was registered and the search for the girl was started,” the DCP said. During investigation, Khan said, residents of the area who could possibly have seen the girl before she went missing were quizzed. “We found out that the girl was last seen with a boy who also lives in the neighbourhood. The boy was identified and a police team raided his house, which was found locked. When the police broke open the door of the house, they found the girl’s body in one of the rooms,” the officer said. The DCP maintained that the girl’s throat had been slit. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
