Dushyant, family to chalk out strategy after consulting Ajay

The future course of action for ousted Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala and his brother Digvijay Chautala will get firmed up once their father Ajay Singh Chautala comes out on a two-week parole on Monday.

The family also plans to visit Sangharsh Sthal in Delhi, the samadhi of their patriarch and late deputy prime minister Chaudhary Devi Lal before unveiling their plans.

At the moment, Ajay Chautala’s family looks isolated in the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) set-up.

Ajay’s wife and INLD MLA from Dabwali, Naina Chautala, became vocal after her sons were suspended from the primary membership of the party, accusing opponents within the party of plotting against her sons. It remains to be seen what public posture Ajay adopts on Monday.

“Ajay would have no option but to support his sons and wife. And by doing that, he would also risk taking on the INLD leadership, including his father. And if he patronises a new outfit, he and his MLA wife would also have to quit the INLD,’’ said a party MLA, who did not wish to be named.

Dushyant and Digvijay were expelled on November 2 by jailed INLD president Om Prakash Chautala from the primary membership of the party.

They were accused of indiscipline, hooliganism and spreading disaffection within the party during the birthday celebrations of their great-grandfather Devi Lal on October 7.

OPTIONS BEFORE HISAR MP

Party leaders close to Ajay Chautala’s family said Dushyant could well use the Jan Nayak Sewa Dal platform to initiate a fresh political innings. The platform can be registered as a political party.

The Hisar MP, who is also in touch with the top echelons of the BJP, may also explore joining the saffron party if his camp’s plans to form a new political outfit did not materialise, they said.

The first-time MP has reportedly met Bharatita Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah in the recent past to discuss his plans. Dushyant, however, denied that he met Shah and or that he plans to join the BJP.

“The BJP is quite inclined to have an electoral understanding with a new Jat-centric outfit. A three-way division of Jat votes among the INLD, the Congress and Dushyant’s party would suit the BJP in elections,’’ said an INLD leader, requesting anonymity.

NO SUPPORT FROM PARTY’S TOP LEADERS

Even two days after their expulsion, Dushyant and Digvijay have not received support from any top leader of the INLD.

Barring some block and district-level functionaries and those who were holding positions in the dissolved youth wing of the INLD and the student wing Indian National Students’ Organisation (INSO), none of the party MLAs came out in support of Hisar MP Dushyant.

“There were murmurs that party MLAs from Uklana and Dadri may come out in support of Dushyant. But so far, no one has. May be they want to wait and watch,’’ said a party functionary.
