Badal misleading people on Bargari dharna: Brahmpura

- Surjit Singh surjit.singh@htlive.com

TILL NOW, BRAHMPURA WAS TARGETING SUKHBIR AND MAJITHIA, THIS IS FOR THE FIRST TIME HE HAS TRAINED GUNS ON BADAL SENIOR

A day after holding a ‘show of strength’ at Chohla Sahib in Tarn Taran district, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) rebel and Khadoor Sahib MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura on Monday upped the ante by accusing former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of misleading the people on Bargari protest.

Replying to a query on Badal’s repeated statements that those protesting in Bargari village over sacrilege issue want to vitiate peaceful atmosphere of Punjab, Brahmpura said he was making baseless statements. “I want to ask him if he has any proof of this?” he told HT.

Till now, Brahmpura was targeting SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and his brother-inlaw Bikram Singh Majithia and this is the first time he has trained guns on Badal senior.

His statement reflects the mood among the taksali Akalis (old guard) who are miffed with the Badals for the manner in which they “mishandled” the sacrilege incidents and the dera chief’s apology. Brahmpura along with former MP Rattan Singh Ajnala and former minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan had raised a banner of revolt against Sukhbir and Majithia.

Though he extended full support to the Bargari protest being led by parallel acting jathedar of Akal Takht Dhian Singh Mand, Brahmpura said they (Akali dissenters) had not made any plan so far to join the protest.

‘STIR OVER 1984 RIOTS, HISTORY BOOK A SHAM’

The Khadoor Sahib MP said the agitation started by Sukhbir to seek justice for 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims and row over the Class-12 history book was nothing but ‘pakhand’ (pretence).

“The agitation over the Sikh massacre makes no sense. Irrespective of the fact that who committed the offence, the BJP is ruling at the Centre presently with the SAD as its alliance partner. If they want to agitate, they must up the ante against Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is the authority to deliver justice,” he added.

Daring Sukhbir to stage a dharna against Modi, he said, “If they want to fight for Sikh cause in real sense, Harsimrat Kaur Badal should also step down as Union minister.”

As for the history book controversy, the Khadoor Sahib MP that syllabus of previous session had already been re-implemented.
