PAK NATIONAL HELD WITH CARBINE

-

The Border Security Force (BSF) nabbed a Pakistani national and recovered a carbine and ammunition from his possession near the Ranian border outpost in the Amritsar sector on Monday.

The arrested Pakistani national has been identified as Gulam Masood of Lahore. During a search operation in the area, the BSF also seized three packets of heroin weighing 1kg each, said officials. Addressing a press conference, BSF deputy inspector general (DIG), Amritsar sector, JS Oberoi said BSF troops launched an operation at the Rajian border outpost following a tip-off.

“Around 3:30am, the troops noticed some suspicious movement ahead of the fence. The troops challenged the suspects but they didn’t pay any heed. The BSF troops opened fire in self-defence but the suspects managed to flee.”

During a search between the security fence and the international border at 9.10am, the BSF personnel recovered three packets of the contraband weighing 1kg each, Oberoi said.

“The troops at Ramkot border outpost, which is near to the Ranian post, launched a search operation and apprehended a Pakistani national at 10.30am. A 5.56 M4 carbine (made in US), two magazines, 28 rounds, three mobile phones, a battery and a lighter were recovered from his possession,” said Oberoi.

He said the Pakistani national had taken the cover of paddy crop between the fence and the International Border. Keeping in view the vulnerability of border and heightened activities of smugglers and anti-national elements, guidelines have been issued to all sectors under the Punjab frontier for strengthening security, he said.
