A 38-year-old businessman dealing in cars was shot dead allegedly by unidentified assailants near Dhankot drain, about eight kilometres from the city, on Sunday night. The police suspect the role of a former business associate of the victim’s wife in the alleged murder. A case under sections 302 (murder), 34 (common intention) and sections of the Arms Act were registered at the Rajendra Park police station on Monday against the accused, a resident of New Colony, Gurugram.

“When the police reached the spot, they saw the victim lying in a pool of blood near the rear wheel of the car. There was no sign of struggle and, prima facie, it appears that someone had shot him from a close range,” said KK Rao, commissioner of police, Gurugram.

Meanwhile, the wife of the deceased in her statement to the police on Monday has held her business partner’s husband as the person responsible for her husband’s death.

She said that on August 16 this year, she had filed a case of rape against the accused, and since then he has been threatening her husband to withdraw the complaint. “I know he is behind the murder and now my children too are unsafe. On several occasions, he has threatened us that he will take revenge. He is an influential person. Despite my two complaints, he was never arrested,” the wife said.

The accused’s wife and victim’s wife had started a cloth business in partnership in August this year.

Shortly afterwards, the accused took her to Delhi to buy the dress materials
