- HT Correspondent

15-year-old girl of Panipat, who was allegedly raped by several people in the past five years, is reportedly pregnant and seeking permission from the district administration to terminate the pregnancy.

The matter came to light when the victim’s lawyer approached the district administration seeking permission for her abortion.

A local advocate and social activist Momin Malik has alleged that the victim had reportedly accused several people of raping her in the past five years and they were considering filing a fresh police complaint against them.

“Our priority is to save her life and we have sought permission for abortion and also moved the application to the Panipat CT magistrate Shashi Vasundhra,” he added.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Samalkha police station in-charge Gurvinder Singh said that the parents of the victim had filed a police complaint about her missing on September 18 and the police recovered her from Samalkha on October 3.”

When the police recovered the girl and her statement was recorded before a magistrate, she accused her father and mother of torture, her brother of molestation and her brother-inlaw of rape but later during counseling by the child welfare committee on October 26, she changed her statements and accused a woman of illegal detention.

He said that the police were investigating the case from different angles and a special investigation team (SIT) has also been formed under the DSP.

When contacted, Panipat CTM Shashi Vasundhra said, “We have discussed the case with the members of the child welfare committee and as per the law, her parents have the right to conduct the abortion.”
