Cameras, free WiFi, parking on ‘model’ roads
The MCG has selected arterial roads as per a new government initiative
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Thursday selected five arterial stretches to be redeveloped and beautified, as part of the government’s move to create “model roads” in the state.
According to MCG officials, the five stretches are HUDA City Centre to Hero Honda Chowk via Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk to Railway Station along Old Railway Road, New Railway road, Between Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk, and sector 4/9-9A dividing road.
MCG officials said that Ajay Nirala, the executive engineer of the horticulture department will be the officer responsible for overseeing the project and work will commence on Friday.
“The five stretches were selected as they are arterial roads and carry heavy traffic. These stretches have issues such as potholes, broken or patched fencing, parking problems, lack pedestrian-friendly amenities, green belts and signages. Hence, we decided to redevelop these stretches and not only make them beautiful but serve as a referring point for replicating more such stretches,” said Yashpal Yadav, MCG commissioner.
On October 22, while reviewing the state of roads in Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had directed the concerned department in each city across the state to redevelop a few roads under their jurisdiction.
As per the model, the horticulture wing will undertake developing green belts along roads, and place benches at available spaces. The development division will provide kerb stones, install iron grills, road markings, zebra crossings, pavement markers, signs and rumble strips, as per requirement. The division will also fill in potholes on carriageways, ensure road is developed in such a manner that the right of way is not affected, and provide parking areas along available spaces adjacent to the road.
