FEROZEPUR: Former minister and expelled Akali leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan got a shot in the arm on Sunday when two-time MP Sher Singh Ghubaya joined his ‘Akali Dal Bachao’ campaign at Jalalabad, the home turf of Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Ghubaya, who has differences with Sukhbir, while addressing a gathering at Kandhwala Hajar Khan under the Jalalabad segment, lashed out at Sukhbir, saying “he was humiliated a number of times despite vacating his assembly (Jalalabad) seat to ensure Sukhbir's maiden entry to Vidhan Sabha in 2009”.

“Despite being a party MP, I was never called for any party meeting or rally and all my pleas to the party high command went in vain,” said Ghubaya.

He said since he was elected as an MP on an Akali Dal ticket, he will complete his tenure but wont contest the coming election under the Sukhbir’s leadership.

Ghubaya also honoured Sekhwan and others by presenting them 'siropa' and demanded stern action against those responsible for the disrespect to Guru Granth Sahib. He also lauded Sekhwan for raising voice against sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, and his efforts to “save Akali Dal”.

Sekhwan held Sukhbir and his brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia responsible for the “worst crisis” in Akali Dal. "It’s high time to revive Akali Dal as it was conceptulised in 1920 to follow the Panthic agenda," Sekhwan said. “Sukhbir can be a good manager or a businessman but can never be a leader," he said.

Sekhwan and Ghubaya held a nearly three-hour-long meeting at the latter’s residence.
