ROHTAK: Police on Monday arrested the man who allegedly killed a guard at a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Bhiwani and decamped with around Rs 70,000 cash.

The accused has been identified as Ripudaman alias Tinku, a resident of Bapora village in Bhiwani. He works in the state education board as a contractual employee, the police said.

They said the accused entered the SBI branch at Chaudhry Bansi Lal University on Thursday and without giving any warning stabbed the guard with a sharp agricultural implement multiple times. He then threatened the staff to hand over all the cash to him, and ran away after getting around Rs 70,000 cash. The entire episode happened in just two minutes, the police said.

The injured guard, Ishwar Singh, was rushed to a hospital by some college students who were present at the spot. He was later shifted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, where he succumbed to injuries.

The entire attack was captured in CCTV cameras installed in the bank, which showed chilling footage of the accused stabbing the guard even when he crawled on floor and cried for help. The accused also stabbed two other bank employees.

Bhiwani SP Gangaram Punia said they will seek accused’s custody for further investigations.
