Kashmiri students detained in Pathankot released

-

PATHANKOT : The three Kashmiri youth, who were detained on suspicion at Pathankot railway station on Sunday, were released after they were proved to be innocent on Monday, police said.

“The three detainees were students and proved to be innocent during quizzing,” Pathankot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel said, adding that they were released after no suspicious record was found against them.

In a joint operation by Punjab Police, J& K Police and GRP, six Kashmiris, who were on board Ajmer-bound Pooja Express, were detained at Pathankot Cantonment railway station on late Sunday night. Among the six, three suspects were in their GRP custody and were being questioned, while the other three were taken away by the J&K Police.

The trio was identified as Syed Owes Ahmed Shah, Shahjad Ubaroo Ahmed and Rohalla Rashid Ahmed, all from J&K.

The investigations revealed that one of the students, who was carrying his bike to his college, is pursuing his master’s degree in engineering at Jodhpur, Rajasthan, while the other is a son of a retired army man and was pursing graduation.

The Pooja Express was brought to a halt on the directions of the J&K Police, which had reportedly some vital inputs about the movement of some Kashmiri suspects through this train.
