Tanwar: Congress to contest mayoral polls on party symbol

: After taking proper feedback from its workers and leaders, the Congress has decided to contest the mayoral polls on party symbol in the upcoming municipal corporation (MC) elections in Haryana, state party chief Ashok Tanwar said on Wednesday.

“Discussions are on whether to allot party symbol to the corporator candidates as well. In my view, party symbol will benefit them also as voters would get to know that they belong to the Congress,” Tanwar said while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

He said the MC elections, slated to be held on December 16, will be like semi-final for the ruling BJP and opposition parties as the outcome of the polls will indicate the mood of the people of Haryana.

“The MC polls will have an impact on the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections next year.”

“We are organising meetings with all party workers and officebearers to discuss our strategy on MC polls. Our decision about corporate candidates will be announced by Thursday,” Ashok Tanwar added.

He said the names of party candidates will be announced on December 5.

SLAMS BJP GOVT

Lashing out at the ruling BJP, Tanwar said, “The BJP is an antifarmer party. Its government has also failed to redress the problems of the common man.”

He said the BJP government had also promised to set up an international airport in Hisar, but it failed to do anything in this regard.
