Snatchers’ gang busted, three held

AMRITSAR : The police on Monday busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of three of its members near Gillwali gate here.

A stolen scooter, two motorcycle­s and as many as 12 mobile phones were recovered from the possession of the accused, police said.

The accused were identified as Vishal Malhotra alias Lalli, Deepak Kumar alias Biba of Gillwali gate, and Asish alias Dana of Bhagwanwal­a.

The Civil Lines station house officer (SHO), Shivdarsha­n Singh, said, “Vishal was wanted in a snatching case. He had taken away purse from a woman on November 28. For arresting Vishal, a team, led by sub-inspector (SI) Nishan Singh of Circuit House police post was working. The team arrested Vishal from his home and recovered the snatched purse from his possession.”

“When he was interrogat­ed, he told police that he had made a gang with Deepak and Asish. They snatched mobile phones besides stealing two-wheelers from Amritsar,” he added.

Based on informatio­n given to police by Nishan, the team arrested the other two from their homes.”

“With the arrest of the trio, we recovered 12 snatched mobile phones, a laptop, two stolen motorcycle­s and a Honda Activa,” the SHO said.

A case was registered under Section 379B (snatching by force) against the three at Civil Lines police station.

The SHO said the trio will be produced in a local court.
