MLA Phoolka to meet speaker tomorrow to discuss his resignation
AAP MLA HAD SENT HIS RESIGNATION ON OCT 12 TO PROTEST GOVT’S FAILURE TO ACT AGAINST BADAL, EX-DGP SAINI IN SACRILEGE, POLICE FIRING CASES
CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA HS Phoolka will meet Punjab assembly speaker Rana KP Singh on Tuesday to talk about his resignation from the state assembly.
Phoolka had sent his resignation from the membership of the state assembly to the speaker on October 12 to register his protest against the failure of the Congress government in Punjab to take action against former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and retired DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in sacrilege and police firing cases.
“The speaker has given me time on December 11 to discuss my resignation. If he wants me to submit the resignation letter in any particular format, I will do that,” said the Dakha MLA.
His meeting with the speaker will take place just two days before the assembly’s three-day winter session commencing on December 13.
Phoolka, a Supreme Court lawyer, had sent a detailed resignation letter listing his reasons, whereas a one-line letter stating the fact that the member concerned is resigning from the House is the norm.
If Phoolka’s resignation is accepted, the strength of AAPAam Aadmi Party, the principal opposition party in the state assembly, will come down to 19.
