3 booked for raping 19-year-old in Amritsar

: Three persons have been booked for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl at Sehnewali village, 26km from the district headquarte­rs, police said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as Roopneet Singh aka Baz, Bhodu and Sajjan Singh, all of the same village.

A case has been registered at Kathunanga­l police station on the complaint of the victim who hails from another village in Amritsar.

The complainan­t said, “Roopneet’s paternal aunt has been living in our village. He used to come to our village frequently, soon we became good friends and later, I feel in love with him. He had promised to marry me.”

“On January 28, the accused took me to a room at his village’s tubewell. Where the other two accused were already present. The trio raped me there,” she added.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Bhupinder Kaur of Kathunanga­l police station said the victim lodged the complaint on Tuesday, following which a case under Sections 376-D (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidati­on) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused.

“Efforts are being made to nab the accused who are at large,” the ASI said.
