: Former Jammu and Kashmir minister Choudhary Lal Singh on Wednesday quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said his recently floated Dogra Savabhiman Sangathan (DSS) would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state.

“We have approached the Election Commission of India for the registration of our party and allotment of symbol—a lion and a goat drinking water together from a river. Thereafter, we will launch an aggressive campaign,” said Singh.

Singh and his party colleague Chander Prakash Ganga were axed from the then BJP-PDP government headed by Mehbooba Mufti after they visited a Hindu Ekta Manch rally to meet people, who were agitating for a CBI probe into the infamous Kathua rape and murder case in January last year.

The body of an eight-year-old girl from a nomadic tribe was recovered in Kathua district on January 17, 2018, a week after she went missing from the forest area while grazing horses.

Singh, who held back to back rallies seeking CBI probe, had on July 22 announced the launch of ‘apolitical’ group and released its 25-point vision document and flag. He had been at loggerheads with the BJP after his ouster from the erstwhile PDP-BJP government in March last year. He was conspicuous by his absence at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sunday rally at Vijaypur.

Stating that he had been staying away from the BJP functions for the last nine months, Singh said he would contest JammuPoonch and Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seats and field candidates in on all 37 assembly seats in Jammu.

“I appeal to the people of Duggar Pradesh to stand up for their next generation. We are not against anyone. But we will not allow hegemony of Kashmiri politicians anymore. Enough is enough,” he said.

“The 25 point vision document of DSS will act as roadmap for his party in the elections,” he said.
