Brexiteers deserve a place in hell: Tusk

BRUSSELS/LONDON: The European Union will make no new offer on Brexit and those who promoted Britain’s exit without any understanding of how to deliver it “deserve a special place in hell”, EU council president Donald Tusk said on Wednesday.

The UK is on course to leave the EU on March 29 without a deal unless PM Theresa May can convince the bloc to reopen the divorce deal she agreed in November and then sell it to sceptical British lawmakers.

Rebuffing May’s bid to renegotiate just a day before she is due in Brussels, Tusk said he wished the UK would reverse Brexit, but that the bloc was preparing for a disorderly British exit.

“I’ve been wondering what that special place in hell looks like, for those who promoted Brexit, without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it out safely,” Tusk said at a joint press conference with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.

INDIAN-ORIGIN EXPERT DRAFTS PROPOSALS

A leading Indian-origin trade expert has joined hands with a former Brexit minister to launch new draft proposals for an FTA between the UK and the EU.

Shanker Singham, who is the CEO of free market consultancy entity Competere and director of the International Trade and Competition Unit at the London-based Institute of Economic Affairs think-tank, claims that the UK can conclude an FTA with the EU quickly.
