AJAY ‘SOLD’ TICKETS DURING 2014 POLLS: ABHAY

- letterschd@hindustantimes.com

Launching a tirade against his elder brother and former MP Ajay Chautala, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala on Wednesday said the former who had been expelled from INLD along with both his sons for anti-party activities about three months ago, had betrayed the party by helping rival candidates in 2014.

Replying to mediapersons’ questions after INLD state executives’ meeting convened to discuss reasons behind INLD’s drubbing in the recent Jind bypoll, Abhay also alleged that in 2014, Ajay, who along with both his sons had floated Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) after expulsion from the INLD about three months ago, had weakened the party in the past also.

“Ajay had helped independent MLA Jai Parkash and Congress’ Navin Jindal in their respective elections at the cost of INLD candidates’ defeat in lieu of seeking their support for his son Dushyant in 2014 Lok Sabha election,” Abhay alleged, adding, “During 2014 assembly elections also, Ajay took money in lieu of giving three INLD tickets and several party leaders, including party president Ashok Arora, were in know of it.”

When asked about the presence of INLD MLA Pirthi Singh at a function of Dushyant Chautala, Abhay held that the MLA had not joined JJP and that he would remain with INLD.

‘INLD LEADERS HAVE LOST THEIR MENTAL BALANCE’

Reacting to Abhay Chautala’s allegations, JJP state president Nishan Singh said in a statement that the INLD leaders seem to have lost their mental balance after Jind bypoll debacle.

“They do not know how baseless remarks they are making. While they were holding INLD state executive committee meeting, their MLA Pirthi Singh had joined JJP,” he said.

Stating that the INLD leaders had stooped too low by making such baseless allegations to divert media attention, Singh said Abhay Chautala himself had often said that he had ensured Dushyant’s win in 2014.

“Moreover, even Jai Parkash had also refuted Abhay’s charges. In my view, Abhay is making such remarks in frustration and people should stop taking him seriously,” he added.
