‘PAKISTAN PROMOTING NARCO-TERRORISM HERE’

JAMMU:Director general of police (DGP) :Jammu and Kashmir , Dilbag Singh has accused Pakistan of prompting narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir to spur up militancy.

While interactin­g with the media of sidelines of function in Jammu on Wednesday, the DGP said, “The drugs are being smuggled into India under a big conspiracy of Pakistan. Majority of the narcotic substances, seized from time to time in Jammu and Kashmir, have originated from Pakistan. It has been witnessed in many cases that the money generated from the sale of such drugs is further pumped to fund and spur up militancy in J&K.”

The police is working to block the supply chain, whether it comes from Kashmir or border districts of Jammu region, including Rajouri and Poonch, the DGP said.

There are some cases where the drugs were supplied from Kashmir and the investigat­ing team was successful in identifyin­g the route and the supposed destinatio­n, whether in Punjab or Delhi, leading to a huge recovery of narcotics," the DGP said.

The drug menace in the state has increased manifold compared to the previous years."We are dealing very strictly with smuggling of contraband in the state. As many as 340 more drug peddlers have been arrested in this connection in the current year, while in whole of last year last about 300 to 350 were arrested for smuggling narcotic substances. As many as 12 people have been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and licenses of eight shops have been cancelled for selling banned chemical drugs", he added.
